Richard Franco Sr.Birth Date: January 9, 1937 Death Date: November 10, 2018Richard Franco Sr. passed away November 10, 2018, at the age of 81 in Dallas, Texas. He was born at home on North Pearl Street in Dallas to Ramon Franco Sr. and Francisca Gaytan Franco on January 9, 1937. Richard’s seven siblings included Robert, Ramon Jr., Ruben, Carmen, Mary, Grace, and Estella. He grew up in West Dallas, and graduated from Crozier Tech High School in1955 where he played football and was voted “Most Likely To Succeed.” In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Conchita Orona, and they celebrated their 62nd anniversary on September 2, 2018.He was lead singer, bassist, and keyboardist for the Joker Band, formed in 1962. The band performed at restaurants, weddings, parties, benefits, and dances that he organized for 56 years. He also organized a softball team for five years that reunited his high school friends. Richard began his career working as a printer’s apprentice, and later he became a partner and business owner of Flexo-Tech, an industrial graphic arts company. After he retired, he worked for the Dallas Central Appraisal Board and was a member of the Dallas Mexican American Historical League. Richard joined the Methodist Church when he married, and was an active member of Agape Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men.Richard is survived by his wife Conchita, and his children: Richard Jr., Michelle (Franco) and Larry Rolando, Susan (Franco) and Lupe Cordova, Cynthia; grandchildren: Michael Franco, Steven Cordova, Marisa Cordova, and James Rolando, and one great-grandchild: Alix Franco.The visitation for Richard will be held at Restland Funeral Home (Memorial Chapel), 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75243 on Thursday November 15, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.The Funeral service for Richard will be Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Restland Funeral Home (Memorial Chapel).
