Robert Landon McAfee's Obituary
Robert Landon McAfee (“Bob”) passed from this earth on January 17, 2020. He was born in Dallas, Texas on February 15, 1936 to Harry Bascom and Mary Louise (Stegall) McAfee. Bob graduated from W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas in 1954, where he was a member of band, Hi-Y, and the tennis team. In 1958, Bob earned a B.A. in Marketing from Abilene Christian College, now called Abilene Christian University. While at ACC, he was an active member of Sub-T 16 social club.
Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1954, serving in the reserves until graduating from college, and then on active duty for 3 years after completing OCS. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1961. Afterwards, Bob enjoyed an active role in the Navy Reserves for many years, retiring as a Lieutenant.
On June 30, 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Amy Ruth Morris. Bob and Amy were married for 58 years until his passing, and together they raised three children: Susan and twins Karen and Landon. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and when his grandsons were born, he enjoyed attending their many activities.
Bob spent his entire career with Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 38 years. His final position there was as Branch Manager of Dealer Development. His career at Ford took him to Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and finally home to Dallas. While at Ford, he was elected to the TICF Board (Texas Independent College Fund).
Bob’s faith was of utmost importance in his life, and service in his church community was his passion, always serving as a Sunday School teacher and even preaching on occasion. In Dallas, Bob and Amy were members of Prestoncrest Church of Christ since 1981. At Prestoncrest, Bob served as a deacon, volunteered as office administrator, assigned worship and communion duties, served on the benevolence committee, and dearly loved working with the FriendSpeak program.
Bob never met a stranger, and he would strike up a conversation with nearly anyone he met in passing. He especially liked talking with servers in his favorite restaurants. His other interests and hobbies included photography, travel, tennis, and walking/jogging. One of the things we will remember most, however, is how much he loved to sing, as he was always expressing random thoughts and desires through little made-up ditties.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Harry Bascom McAfee, mother Mary Louise McAfee, and brother Howard Thomas McAfee. Bob is survived by his wife Amy Ruth McAfee; daughter Susan Wyatt (husband Scott and children Ben and Timothy) of Frisco, Texas; daughter Karen Richardson (husband Keith and children Jason and Brandon) of Prosper, Texas; and son Landon McAfee (and wife Biviana McAfee) of Addison, Texas. He is also survived by sister-in-law Candace McAfee, niece Kaci Jacobs, nephews Tony McAfee and Sam McAfee, and their families.
