Robert Stephen “Steve” Molina, 75, of Dallas, Texas passed away suddenly on April 2, 2023. He was born to the late Ed and Marie Molina on December 3, 1947, in New York. After graduating from Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1966, he received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin where he was a Sigma Phi Epsilon and solidified his love of the Texas Longhorns. After UT, he completed a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Steve had a long and distinguished legal career predominately in domestic and international oil and gas law serving as the General Counsel to the Oman Oil Company, residing in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman; Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Benton Oil and Gas Company; Vice President and General Counsel for Vastar Resources, Inc.; Chief Counsel for ARCO Latin America, residing in Caracas, Venezuela; and General Attorney for ARCO Oil and Gas Company, the Atlantic Richfield Company upstream, midstream and wholesale marketing operating company division. He also served as Of Counsel for Dentons and Patton Boggs. In December, 2005, Texas Governor Perry appointed him to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. In retirement, he was the Director of MS Energy Management Program in the Naveen Jindal School of Management, at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Steve met his wife Susan Kay Horner, the love of his life, while attending the American School in Mexico City in 1958. They wed in 1969 in Austin, Texas and moved to Dallas in 1971 where they raised their 3 children. Although they lived and traveled around the world, they always called Dallas “home”. Steve took extreme pride in his grandson, Miller (14), and loved traveling with Susan, hunting with his kids, teaching college students, hunting, reading his favorite authors and watching Texas Ranger baseball and UT sports. Steve and Susan were also active in the congregation of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas.
Steve is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan, his daughter Kay Molina, his sons/wives, Tim and Linda Molina and Jeff and Valerie Molina, and his grandson Miller Molina.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 6th at 10:00am at the Restland Funeral Home, Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas 75243, followed by a gravesite burial.
