Robert T. Otey's Obituary
Dr. Robert Trevis Otey was born on December 3, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas and passed away on January 17, 2016 in Plano, Texas. Dr. Otey was a graduate of Baylor University, Waco, Texas and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. He did additional graduate work at Boston University and at Baylor University. Dr. Otey held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor, a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by Campbellsville College, Kentucky. He is listed in The Dictionary of International Biography, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Religion and Who’s Who in America. He was an honorary Chaplain of the United States Senate and a Kentucky Colonel. Dr. Otey was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy Air Corp. For six years Dr. Otey served on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention and over eleven years as a member of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. In addition to his ministry as pastor, he wrote numerous articles for denominational periodicals and had over fifty sermons selected for publication in the Pastor’s Annual. In addition, he wrote for the Life and Work Sunday School curriculum of the Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. Otey traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, Middle East, South and Central America. In March 1978 he was part of a team of pastors conducting revivals in Alaska under the sponsorship of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1980 he went on a preaching mission to the Orient, Russia and around the world. Dr. Otey was married to the former Ruth Judy of Henderson, Kentucky, they had three children. After the passing of Ruth, he married E. Marie Collins in May of 2004. He is survived by his son Trevis Jr. and wife Amy, his son Kam and wife Caroline, his daughter Judy and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by his wife, and family. A private family service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
