THE COVENANT of ROBERT DENNIS TROY LORD I WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN…Robert was born in Baylor Hospital, Dallas, Texas on August 17, 1936. His parents came to Dallas in 1934 from Centerville (father) and Cumberland (mother), Maryland. His father’s family was originally from Tipperary County, Ireland. His mother’s family was of German Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. He attended Dallas Public Schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1954. He attended Texas Technological College in Lubbock where he received the professional degree B. of Architecture in 1959.Robert is survived by his loving and caring wife Sandra and her family, by his two loving daughters Kathleen Amanda, Claire Christine and their families, and by his loving sister-in law Diane Troy and her family from Temple, Texas.After serving in the Texas 49th Armored Division for six years, during the Berlin Crisis in 1961- 62, Robert was accepted into the architectural graduate program at Columbia University in New York City, He received the degree Master of Science in Architecture in 1964.Since passing the Texas Architect’s licensing exam in 1965, Robert has practiced architecture for nearly 55 years. His practice has included both public and private sector clients including DISD, DCCCD, City of Dallas, Dept. of HUD, Dallas County Hospital District, The Trammell Crow Co., Beck Corporate Development Svcs., SWBT Co. and Greyhound Bus Lines. Two of his most notable nonprofit clients were Juliette Fowler Homes, and Plano Community Homes.For four years Robert taught architecture at Texas Tech as an Assistant Professor of Design. During that time he wrote a book about “Lima, Peru, Housing in an Arid Coastal Region” under a scholarship from the Texas Architectural Foundation, and by sponsorship of ICASALS at Texas Tech. In 1970 Robert was asked to be the Director of the Architectural Technology program at El Centro College in Dallas. He spent ten years as its Director, until the demand of his architectural practice forced him to give up teaching.Robert’s professional memberships and activities have included the AIA, TSA, NCARB, American Arbitration Association, and as a Designated Grader for three years of the national exam for the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. Along the way Robert became an Underwriting Member (Name) of Lloyd’s of London.During the past twenty years Robert and Sandra have been members of Northway Christian Church in Dallas where they both served as Deacons, he served on the Property Committee, and she served as an Elder.In lieu of flowers, Robert and his family would appreciate a donation to the endowed scholarship fund at Texas Tech College of Architecture under the name of Robert D. His service will be Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Restland Memorial Park.
