Kevin, Kendall, Kirk, and Missy, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I always enjoyed coming down to Mom's (Jan Kurka) house and visiting with your dad. He was always up for a walk around the neighborhood and a good chat. He was always interested in what was happening back in Iowa. I remember your dad sitting with me at the hospital when my mom had her back surgery. We chatted endlessly, and the time flew by. Then your dad said, "Young lady, I'm not leaving this hospital until I can buy you lunch". We even attended Mass together on All Saint's Day. I told him I would drive but did not know my way around, and he told me, "I know my way around, but I can't drive" — and we laughed thinking we would definitely make a good team. I'm so thankful that I got to see him in February and I got to meet Missy and Kirk. The day I visited your dad, he seemed to know me even though we hadn't seen each other for several years. When I told him I was from Cedar Rapids, he immediately started talking about Iowa, in particular, the University of Iowa. I felt extremely honored because I even got a kiss from your dad when I was ready to leave. Your dad will always hold a special place in my heart. I will always remember his laugh and his smile. I'm thankful for the many wonderful years of companionship and friendship he provided to my mom. He will be missed. God Bless All of You. Love, Linda Durfey
