Roy Olivier's Obituary
Roy Olivier, 92, of Richardson, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022.
Roy was predeceased by his wife Sue Olivier, his parents Stephen Olivier and Ruth Hebert, his brothers Clarence and Harold Olivier, and his sister Jeanette LaPorte.
Roy is survived by, his children Stephanie Olivier (Amy), Roy Olivier (Wioletta) and Nick Olivier (Anna), his six grandchildren, and his sister Lenora Parrish (Bill), and his partner and dear friend, Barbara Keenan.
Roy was born January 16, 1930, in Arnaudville, Louisiana, the oldest of 5 children. Raised on a farm, he learned, at an early age, the values of hard work and taking care of his family. After graduating from Arnaudville High School, Roy attended Spencer’s Business College and then Southwestern Louisiana Institute, earning a degree in accounting. While in college, Roy served in the Louisiana National Guard. After earning his degree, Roy enlisted in the Air Force, completing basic training, Officer Candidate School and eventually Air Force Pilot Training. While going through Pilot Training in Lubbock, Texas, Roy met his future wife, Sue Willard, and they married in Dallas, Texas on July 6, 1956.
Over the next 19 years in the Air Force, Roy and Sue moved approximately 18 times and were stationed in Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Nebraska and Athens, Greece. Roy deployed to Korea, Japan and Taiwan and was awarded, among many military awards, the Air Medal for flying C130’s in combat in Vietnam and Thailand. Over his time in the Air Force, Roy safely flew 7100 flying hours in 11 aircraft and qualifying as a Command Pilot, the highest pilot qualification in the Air Force.
After retirement in January 1975, Roy and Sue moved to Richardson, Texas, where Roy began a career with Sanger Harris department store in the Purchasing department until 1987.
Roy was always active and supportive of his children’s education and development. One year, Roy ran boy scout and girl scout camps in Greece managing over 500 children. Roy would spend time with his children as baseball coach, throwing the ball, doing yard work, and helping them with their homework.
Roy became a parishioner at Church of the Holy Communion in 1975 and served as an usher for approximately 35 years and as Church Treasurer for 5 years. Generous with his time, talent and treasure, Roy was an integral part of this church for over 43 years. Roy was always thankful for his friends at the Church and their time together after service. Roy enjoyed traveling, and he and Sue traveled to Europe, Greece and across the United States. Roy and Sue would visit veterans at the Dallas Veterans Hospital, and Roy always remembered his family, the deployed soldiers around the world and all those who were sick in his prayers. Sue passed suddenly in 2006, just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.
After Sue passed, Roy enjoyed a special friendship with a very fine lady, Barbara Keenan, and they had many happy memories together traveling through Texas, Florida and the East Coast, sharing stories about their families and talking politics.
Roy was always proud of his children and grandchildren, and their life accomplishments. He led by example and instilled the values that made his children who they are. He was a remarkable father and mentor to all of his family and has touched the hearts and lives of many people throughout his life. He was an incredible man who provided for his family and showed them love, faithfulness and kindness that will stay with them forever. He will be dearly missed.
