I knew Rufus Jr. when I was a child in his hometown, Shamrock, Texas. His parents, Rufus Sr. and Dorothy, were leading citizens of that city, well respected and loved, who were active members of First Methodist Church in Shamrock. They overcame the tragedy of the loss of their daughter to polio and went on to be an inspiration to the entire community. They were among my family's best friends. To the Dodgen family, please accept my deepest sympathy at their loss. I know that his father and mother were very proud of what a wonderful man he became.
