Sam was truly an inspiration to many Motorola Engineers around the world. I had the great fortune of attending many of Sam’s Microwave or Channel bank classes. He made sure we all understood the material, and if we did not, he was always there to help pull us along when were lost. Sam loved what he was doing. As others have mentioned, Sam would answer those questions for many years after his official service with Motorola was over. Sam was always only a phone call away……Yeeeeeessss… Sam you will be missed. May your family take comfort knowing that you made a very favorable and lasting impression with all those you came in contact with.Rest in Peace my friend.

I remember the many times I would have a particularly difficult TenSR customer issue, calling Sam, hearing his cheery answering voice, “Sam Tiner!” (in his Oklahoma/Texas twang) and then feeling, “YES!!!!…I’ve got Sam on the phone…this issue is as good as fixed, Sam is working with me”…..Sam really “knew his stuff”…. he defined the term SME, subject matter expert. Then I think about the many times Sam would take those same calls, even WELL after he had retired from Motorola! ….Sam was definitely a a “one off”, a “character”, a colleague, a friend, we are all extremely fortunate at having known him and having worked with him.
RIP Sam…forever missed, never forgotten.

Sam was a friend, coworker, and for a time Sam worked in my team at Motorola. Sam’s personality was amazing how upbeat he always was on the phone or in person. We had many great times over the years working together and I will miss Sam. The memory that I will always remember most is when a coworker had a medical issue that Sam had experienced. I asked Sam if he could talk to him and Sam immediately reached out to him and every time Sam was in Schaumburg you would see the two of them take a walk to discuss the issue. The coworker related to me how talking to Sam had eased his fears on the medical issue. This exemplified the true character of Sam, always there to help everyone. Sam, you will be missed by all. Sorry that I am unable to attend the visitation or service.
