Samuel William Jennings III's Obituary
On Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019, God called Samuel home to peace and glory and whispered, “Job Well Done”.Samuel William Jennings, III, also known as “Duke” and “Sam”, was born July 21, 1952 to the late Samuel W. Jennings, Jr. and late Shirley G. Jones in Chicago, IL. Sam was raised on the South Side of Chicago and this is where he accepted Christ at an early age and proceeded to be baptized at Our Lady of The Gardens Catholic Church.Sam attended and graduated from Morgan Park High School. After high school, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Western Illinois University. At Western Illinois, Sam pledged and joined the Zeta Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. Sam flourished as an outstanding student and matriculated with Honors through both high school and college. His high aptitude would become a huge asset for him during his successful business career.Shortly after graduation, Sam would meet his beautiful best friend and destined love-of-his-life, Yvette West. After several months of courtship, these two lovebirds wed in November of 1974. Together, they embarked on a journey for the next 44 years that would take them from Chicago to California to Washington to Louisiana and finally to Texas. Throughout their travels, Yvette was with Sam every step of the way as they established a strong foundation at home. Sam’s pride and joy were his two wonderful children, Samuel IV and Shauntai Venee’. Not only was Sam a devoted husband, but he was a dedicated father who enjoyed spending time and providing his family with diverse experiences of a lifetime.Sam would go on to contribute to the growth and development of several companies such as Ryerson Steel for 19 years, ASC Pacific Steelscape for 12 years and most recently as the General Manger of A-Mark Metals Inc for the past 11 years. A-Mark Metals was one of several of Sam’s business ventures that he created and nurtured with his business partners over the years.Sam’s charismatic personality and his incredible work ethic made him a natural born leader and one who practiced servant leadership. Sam took pride in being a role model as well as being a confidant and friend. He was someone that you could always depend on and talk to about anything. Put simply, Sam was a true definition of a strong man and he was recognized, loved and respected by everyone that ever knew him. His presence, smiles, and words will be missed by us all.Sam leaves to cherish his memories his devoted & darling wife of 44 years, Yvette; his children: Samuel W. (Mechael) Jennings, IV (Dallas, TX) and Shauntai (Richard) Harvey (Dallas, TX); his two brothers: Freddie (Linda) Foster (Richton Park, IL), Derek (Mary) Jennings (Calumet City, IL); his sister: Deborah Drake (Houston, TX); his grandchildren: Samuel W. Jennings, V, Jairdyn D. Jennings, Skylar Y. Harvey and Reagan J. Harvey; his mother in law: Nettie I. West; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, loving relatives and great friends and co-workers.Preceding him in his transition are Sam’s parents, Samuel Jr. and Shirley and his sister Bonnylen Page.Funeral Service will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:30 p.m., at Restland Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.. Burial will follow the funeral service at Restland Memorial Park, Chapel Garden Mausoleum.
