Samuel Edward Jumper's Obituary
Samuel Edward Jumper
8/14/1944 – 12/12/2020
Samuel Edward Jumper was born to Samuel David and Doris Marie (Sims) Jumper on August 14, 1944. He was raised in Riley, Texas, and attended Riley High School, where he was in the choir and played on the basketball team.
At a young age, Sammy felt a calling to serve the Lord and sang in a gospel quartet. When he was only 17 years old, he met a cute young 15 year old named Sherry Willingham at a Christmas party in 1961 at their mutual friend’s home. The next year on November 3, 1962, they were married.
Their love affair spanned the next 58 years and they were side-by-side when Sam took his last breath and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. During their life together they raised three children, Samuel Waldon, Stephanie Ann, and Susan Marie in Grand Prairie, Texas. Sam retired after 30 years from Lockheed Martin (LTV/Vought) as a Master Electrician and served as Shop Steward in the IBEW.
Throughout his life, Sam had many hobbies and interests. He bowled on a league, played on the work softball team, loved airplanes and airshow, served as a Scoutmaster, volunteered for the Grand Prairie Youth Football and Softball Associations, and later in life took up bird watching. After retirement from Lockheed, he volunteered for three years at Marshall Regional Hospital then decided to go back to work as a sub rural route carrier for the USPS.
Sam was drawn back to the church and worshipped at Longview Metro Church for nine years and recently at Revive Church in the Longview Mall for the past five years.
Sam is preceded in death by father (1979), his mother (1998), his brother Jerry Jumper (2004), brother Baby Boy Jumper (1945), and his son-in-law Paul (2016). He is survived by his sisters Linda Marie Murray and Tina Christine Brooks; his children Samuel (Joanne) Jumper, Stephanie Moreno, and Susan (Matt) Meredith; his 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who knew him as Papa Bear.
