This is a good one, pop your corn!
I worked with Sharon, but not really, we worked at the same place. My dad introduced us. He worked with Sharon's boss and introduced us, me a CA girl in Dallas. Sharon and I became the best of friends.
I had not yet become an employee, and flew back to CA every week.
One rainy night, lighting stopped all the flights at at DFW.
In our many conversations, Shar had told me about her buddy, a top level air traffic controller for this giant hub. Shelly is her name. And I hope Shelly is reading this.
We had de-planed for lightening, no take offs for 10 or 15 minutes between strikes.
I headed to the bar, they did have decent beer at the airport.
After being called back to board, we found we were 23rd in line for take off.
Think about it, lets say 3 minutes per plane, that's a long time sitting in line, again.
I was bragging (drunk) to some stranger I had made friends with in the bar, he bought me my last 22... (ounce you amateur!) and I spilled that I knew someone who knew someone who is the head honchette air traffic controller here. The guy called me out!
I finally texted Shar, asked if she could tell Shelley was was up? And I showed the dude the text.
Nest thing I heard was "Flight #... 3 planes ahead of you"
Seriously.
That guy thought I was magical. And I know Sharon Wilson is magical.
And Shelly, where ever you are, thanks for making me look good, and getting me home!
This still cracks me up. Funny, cause it is absolutely a true story!
