Ann Hollingsworth
Hello my name is Ann Hollingsworth and I had the privilege to be the daughter of this fantastic mother. Mom put my brother and my needs above all else. She had a lovely life. In fact she was nicknamed " Lovely Little Love from Lover's Lane". Shirley grew up in Oklahoma on a farm and had a love for animals especially horses and pigs!! Shortly thereafter her family moved to Highland Park in Dallas. Shirley was an only child but was close to her cousins Gloria and Rick Love also from Highland Park. They attended Highland Park High school. Gloria tells me Mom had a red convertible and they were the " hot girls" and used to love to have fun going to the movies for a quarter at the Highland Park theater and sharing popcorn and ice cream! She had a chihuahua dog named Trixie. She then lived at home while attending Southern Methodist University where she majored in advertising. She met my Dad Henry Harold at SMU on a blind date. She was active with the Delta Gammas on campus and wrote for the campus newspaper. Dad was a Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) and member of Cox business school. They had two children both attending college in Austin Mark played basketball for Concordia and later accepted a semi-pro position with the DJ Kickers in Germany (former team of Dirk Nowenski). Shirley was a stay at home Mom volunteering countless hours to her church St. Mark's Presbyterian, SMU Housing corporation as co-house manager with Anne Londeree and President of the volunteers at Baylor University. Once her children were grown she moved up in the ranks at Baylor for 35 years from President of the Volunteers to retiring from Physical Medicine department. They just couldn't let her go as Stephanie and Jack Rustamier called her back in to sub in her eighties until suffering a brain stroke. She loved her family, church (Highland Park Methodist) and the Texas Rangers! She is smiling down on her family as she cared for her two children Mark and Ann, four grand children Matt, Amy, Megan and Jacob more than anything else. She was so generous that on weekly hair appointments at J.C Pennys she would let Amy have her credit card to buy whatever she wanted! She helped pay for Amy's college and sorority housing at Texas A&M. I could not be blessed by a better Mom or Dad. Shirley was joyful even on her last day…she waited till Mark drove in from Austin and was surrounded by family and friends. We told her how honored we were to have had such a sweet, caring joyful role model and would see her again someday in heaven. Mom we love you…Ann, Mark and Darci, Matt, Amy, Megan, Jacob and Aggie ( chihuahua).
