Sidney Anne Burtner's Obituary
Sidney Anne Burtner, a 5th generation Dallasite, peacefully passed away following a stroke, January 30, 2021 at the age of 73. She is the great-great granddaughter of William M. and Nancy Jane Hughes Cochran, the first of the seven Hughes sisters to settle in the Dallas area beginning in 1842. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Ellen and Robert Burtner. Sidney graduated Highland Park High School and S.M.U. where she was an Zeta. Sidney loved people and enjoyed sharing her time and talents to support many philanthropies and organizations. She had a special interest in Dallas and it’s wonderful history. She was a member of The James Campbell Chapter of the DAR, Dallas Southern Memorial Association, Dallas County Pioneer Association, Park Cities Historical Society, Highland Park High School Alumni Association, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, The Texas Daffodil Society, Designers and Diggers Garden Study Club, Womens Council of the Dallas Arboretum, DIVA, Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Dallas Theater Guild, The Family Place Partners, Art Reach Auxiliary, Wednesday’s Child, The American Heart Association Womens Guild, The Mary K. Craig Class, The Dallas Woman's Club, Dallas Knife and Fork Club, Dallas 200, and The Safari Club. She spent endless hours as a volunteer at Old City Park as a member of The Guild of Old City Park, and supporting ZTA Dallas Alumnae Association and The Argyle Club, having served as President for both. She is survived by her brother Bob Burtner and wife Mary K, nephew Robert Burtner, niece Kathleen Baker and husband Matt, niece Ellen Anne Burtner, and great niece and nephew Maggie and Levi Baker all of Houston.
