The words that I associate with Steve are FAMILY and FRIENDS, as they were intertwined and indistinguishable in his life. His home and heart were always open, offering comfort, care, and warmth to everyone. Steve possessed exceptional listening skills, ensuring he knew and understood those around him. On one occasion, I mentioned my husband's upcoming performance at a local venue and Steve surprised us by attending and offering his support.
My son later faced challenges entering the job market, and Steve graciously encouraged him, even sharing his resume with others. He did so because that was simply Steve's nature—to provide support and encouragement to others.
During a family event, likely a reunion, someone offered me a refreshing drink. Upon complimenting it, Steve and Ann appeared shortly after with a cooler full of the same beverage. Perhaps Steve's playful side was at work, curious to see if Cousin Diane would let her hair down with a few more drinks. In truth, their unselfish, generous, and caring nature was on full display.
I'm confident that many of you have similar stories and experiences with Steve. I encourage you to remember and share these moments in the days ahead. Steve was a remarkable man and an all-around good human being who will be deeply missed by the McQuay family and all that loved him..
With love,
Diane
