Thomas Andrew Hixson's Obituary
Thomas Andrew Hixson born December 23, 1927 in Dallas, Texas. He attended Fannin Elementary School, graduated High School from Crozier Tech and attended SMU Business School.
After graduation from high school, he obtained permission from his father to join the United States Marine Corp. on June 16, 1945. During his tour in the Marines, he was sent to China for a peace keeping mission. Tom was honorably discharged on November 18, 1947. He returned to Dallas and owned a Mobil service station. In 1954, Tom opened his first One Hour Martinizing cleaners located at 4206 Oak Lawn. Later he opened seven more locations. In 1978, he retired and sold the remaining locations to his brother-in-law, John Faulkner, who still carries on the tradition at two locations.
March 1955, Tom married his wife, Barbara. He and his wife moved to Keller, TX in 1976. Tom became involved in the local Keller Volunteer Fire Department where he latei became Volunteer Fire Chief. He helped bring significant change to the fire service in Keller, moving from the small station on Main Street, to the much larger station on Keller Parkway. He helped implement one of the first paid fire fighters in Keller. After his tenure as weller Fire Chief, Tom joined the Dallas Big D Marine Corp Detachment and remained a member until his passing. Tom loved everything about Marine Corp.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Candace Reuss and Rhonda Hixson, son Thomas W. Hixson, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Wesley Newton Hixson, Mother Mernie Maye Hixson, sister Elizabeth Hixson, brother Wesley N. Hixson, Jr. and grandson Wesley Hixson.
