Thomas Michael Ormond's Obituary
Thomas Michael Ormond (“Mike”), 75, passed away at home on December 17, 2021 from ongoing chronic health issues. He was born on October 17, 1946 in Dallas, TX. After graduating from Highland Park High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma for a short time until meeting his college sweetheart, Deborah Ann Bickerstaff, on a blind date over Thanksgiving break in 1967. He soon transferred to the University of Texas to be with the love of his life and continue his collegiate coursework.
Mike and Debbie married in a chapel in Austin on October 20, 1967, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1969. They soon moved to Oakland, CA for several years where their children Kimberly Diane and Travis Russell were born. After three years, they packed up their things and moved back to Dallas to be near family.
Mike eventually left his career in finance, followed in his father’s footsteps, and went into car sales for the bulk of his career where he was well-liked by both his colleagues and customers. In his later years, Mike combined his favorite hobby, horse racing, with a part-time career at the Lone Star Park Race Track.
Affectionately known as “MikeO” to his family and friends, he leaves behind countless stories and memories. He was down-to-earth, fearless and highly intelligent. He will always be remembered for his genuine personality, smile and laughter as well as his funny stories and words of wisdom. He always approached life with a sense of humor and his greatest passions included horse racing, music, movies, trivia, cars, sports and his dog, Dusty.
