Thomas William Worthy's Obituary
Thomas William Worthy passed away in Richardson, Texas on Saturday, March 7th, 2015. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ann Worthy; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and William Wetmore; grandchildren, Chris Worthy and wife, Cecily; Amanda Gotcher and Elizabeth Darbon; great-grandchildren, Halen, Karley and E.J. Gotcher. Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Joyce Abshier Worthy; parents, Thomas Wesley and Cora Irene Sheperd Worthy; brothers, Charles E. Worthy, Robert W. Worthy and sister, Elsie Borschel. Tom was born on October 5th, 1922 in Flora, Mississippi; his family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1924. He graduated from Crozier Technical High School in 1942. Tom enlisted in the Army Air Force in October 1942 during World War II and was honorably discharged. He reenlisted in the Air Force Reserves and called to active duty for the Korean War in 1951 and honorably discharged in 1953. Tom married Joyce Abshier after they met at church while he was stationed in Altus, Oklahoma in 1944 and shortly thereafter moved to Dallas, Texas. In 1945 their first child Bill, was born. In 1954 Tom was hired by Sun Oil Company. In 1955 Tom and Joyce had their second child, Pamela, and moved to Richardson, Texas where he and Joyce stayed the remainder of their lives. He also owned and operated the “Forget-Me-Not” florist on Main Street in Richardson. Tom enjoyed working in his yard and cooking for his family. Tom was known for his special Christmas recipe of “Texas Trash” which people all across America loved. Tom was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart all his life. He was a member of the Peak and Garland Assemblies of God as a young man and a member of Dallas First Assembly of God for over 30 years. The visitation for Thomas Worthy will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Tom’s funeral is scheduled for 3:00 PM, Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Reverend Tom McMahan will officiate the ceremony.
