George and I are saddened to hear about your best friend's passing into His loving arms. I was enthralled by Val. She seemed the quintessential Southern lady to this Yankee girl. She was witty, elegant and gracious. I still quote her to my friends up here and do my best to mimic her accent. And I always loved her outfits, especially her shoes! I know you have lost a dear friend in her as well as wife, spiritual support and muse. I trust you will let all our other friends walk you through this time. We are with you in spirit.

I cannot express what a positive impact Val had on my life. I am so grateful she was a role model in my life. Thoughts and prayers go out to Brooks and the whole family for losing such a treasure but how blessed they all were to have had the experience of her in their lives.

Val was one of those people who may never have guessed that she was a role model. She has struggled for years with medical illnesses, yet I never once heard her complain. I never sensed that she had let the illness get the best of her. She seems to have been a true Southern Lady to the end. She can never be replaced, but I hope that I can let her life lessons live on within me. She is a tough act to follow; I would hope only to be half as gracious as she was in life. That would be enough.
