Vera Gladys Snyder's Obituary
Vera Burns Snyder was born on December 16, 1909 in Caldwell, Texas and passed away February 2, 2015 at the age of 105. Daughter of John Wesley and Dena Gjedde Burns she moved with her family to Kopperl, Texas Bosque county in 1914 at 5 years of age to a farm her parents purchased. Times were very hard and her family struggled through these difficult times. At the age of 8 she memorized the poem “Immortality” and delivered it at the unveiling of the “Unknown Soldier” in Bosque County at the end of World War I in 1918. She graduated from Kopperl High School as valedictorian of her class at 16 ½ years of age and after graduation attended North Texas State Teachers College for a period of time. On March 15, 1933 she married the love of her life William R Snyder Jr. and they resided in Dallas, TX, Tulsa, OK and Houston, TX as his job with Mobil Oil dictated. After the passing of her husband in 1974 she moved back to Dallas and continued her life with family and friends until her passing. She was a beautiful and caring person and will be missed so much by her family and friends. She was surrounded by her loving family in life and at time of her passing. She is preceded in death by her four brothers, two sisters and a great nephew. She is survived by her nephew, Charles and wife, Sue Burns, nephew, Gerald and wife, Joyce Burns, niece, Cynda Kay and husband, Don North all of Dallas, Texas and niece, Jennie Kohler of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews, Terry and Liz Burns, Dena and Ugene Day, Lisa and Patrick Christian, Matt and Vickie North, Christina and Thomas Keeney, Mary Ann Huchingson and Tommy Huchingson, William Kohler and Vera Lynn Ridley and many, many great, great nieces and nephews and one great, great, great nephew, Matteo Burns. The visitation for Vera will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 06, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Vera will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Febraury 07, 2015 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
