Vincent A. Rego's Obituary
Vincent Anthony Rego, age 85 of Richardson, Texas died peacefully on Wednesday October 7, 2009 at his residence. Born and raised in Bristol, Rhode Island on March 18, 1924, he served in the 101st Airborne Division in World War II, including the great battles at Normandy and Bastogne. He started in the electrical building wire business in 1951 in Rhode Island and came to Texas in 1953. He was founder and Chairman Emeritus of Encore Wire Corporation in McKinney, Texas. “INC”, in cooperation with Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch, named Mr. Rego “Entrepreneur of the Year” twice – in 1990 and 1992. Also, in 1990, Mr. Rego was the recipient of the Charles D. Scott Distinguished Career Award by the New England Wire and Cable Club. In 2006 he received the Mordica Memorial Award by the Wire Association International for extraordinary contributions to the advancement and welfare of the wire and cable industry. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Dorothy (Travers) Rego, sister Mary (Rego) Hubert and parents Manuel and Isabelle (Oliver) Rego. He is survived by his brother Ralph, two sons, Paul and Daniel Rego, and a granddaughter, Cienna Dubay, all of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Leslie, Marnie and John L. Hubert, Edward P. Travers II, Stephany Silvia, Maryelizabeth DaPonte, and Eleanor T. Cox, all of Rhode Island; and by several great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:30am in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 720 South Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Visiting hours are Friday 6pm-8pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church, 720 South Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080.
