It was always a wonderful feeling seeing Wayne at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service with his trusted service dog companions over the years. I remember he had more than one service dog, occasionally the younger dog needed extra correction, but always remember Wayne in good spirits. Sweet Sandy, Gary and I were so saddened to read in the paper that dear Wayne had passed. You two were very special to us in our time at Richardson East. You both amazed us with your ability to navigate life with such sweet attitudes. One of my favorite memories was a Sunday when Gary and I sat in front of you two at church. I felt something big pushing my foot forward and when I looked under the seat, it was a great big head belonging to a great big sweetheart of a dog telling me I was in his way. I love the picture you have posted here. That must be Wrigley. We pray he will be of comfort to you. Wayne and I worked together in the Dallas office 1969 to 1970, I think. It was my first year as a VRC, and I had so much to learn. He, Judy Scott, Glenda ?, Preston. Arnold, and many others taught me about working with people who do not see well. We traveled to and from Terrell St Hospital and Denton St School to assess and serve those who qualified for agency services. He was a sincere and dedicated person who listened to others, answered questions, and helped people learn new skills for coping.
I worked with Wayne at the Army & Air Force Exchange Service…though a very good programmer, he was a pleasure for us business people to work with; he was always willing to explain the issue in our terms, never talking down to us or in any way making us feel stupid; that was nice and we always appreciated it…my condolences to all his family; he was truly a joy to work and interact with….Umesh Rajagopal (Raj)
I knew Wayne more through Sandy, but her love for him made me feel like I knew him as a best friend for years. I know he's already advocating with God on behalf of people with disabilities and letting him know how he could make things better. So Wayne, you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. May God be with you Sandy and comfort you during this difficult time. All our love and prayers.
We have not had the pleasure to have Wayne in our lives for a long time, but the short time we have known him we felt he was a true gentleman and friend.
