Weldon Richard Griffith's Obituary
Weldon Richard Griffith passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025. Born April 10, 1926, in Midlothian, TX, to Margie (Muncy) and Howard Griffith, he was the youngest of six boys.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers—Zack, Gene, Clarence, Harry, and Oliver; his wife of almost 60 years, Winnie Kate (Kirk); and his wife, Wanda Vassallo.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Griffith Skaggs Irons; son, Don (Pat) Griffith; stepdaughter, Laurie Vassallo; stepson, Rick Vassallo; grandchildren: Brent (Jennifer) Skaggs, Jennifer (Bryan) Brookman, Karakay (Dan) Kovaly, and Justin (Brandy) Griffith; great-grandchildren: Mayce Allen, Jada Acuff, Burk Skaggs, Shelby Skaggs, Johnnie Acuff, and Rex Skaggs; and his special friend, Betty Jones.
Weldon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944. He was a 2022 Hall of Fame recipient and earned his Bachelor's degree in 1949 and Master's in Education from the University of North Texas.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired after many years of service to the Dallas Independent School District. He was recently honored for his work as the founding manager (Magnet Principal) at the Skyline Career Development Center.
Weldon was a worldwide traveler with many passport books filled to the brim; a deacon and faithful member of Grandview Baptist Church; and was active in Rotary and other civic organizations. He will be remembered as a kind, caring, faithful, and generous man.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 18, 2025, with a service officiated by Rev. Dr. Milfred Minatrea at 10:30 a.m. in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243, with a graveside service to follow.
