Weslynn Simons Martin's Obituary
Weslynn Simons Martin, 79, passed away on December 24, 2021 in Plano, TX. She was born in McAllen, TX to Wesley and Ruth Simons. Weslynn earned her BA from the University of Texas and her MA in Speech-Communication from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Professor Martin then taught in and chaired the Department of Speech Communication and Fine Arts at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, earning numerous teaching and other awards for over 25 years.
Weslynn and her husband, Ben L. Martin, retired from teaching and returned to Texas in 2003 to a country home outside Celina, TX where she enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling the world. Vivacious and endearing, Weslynn is remembered fondly by hundreds of former students and colleagues, neighbors and friends in Kansas City, Celina and Plano.
Weslynn is survived by her husband and their daughter, Heather M. Novak of Richardson, TX; son-in-law, Kent Novak of Richardson, TX; son, Matthew C. Martin of Dallas, TX; daughter-in-law Capriccio B. Martin of Dallas, TX; and four grandsons, Travis Bannon of Dallas, TX; Jack Bannon of Richardson, TX; Milo Martin of Dallas, TX; and Brody Martin of Dallas, TX. Weslynn's precious memory will be cherished by her family which meant everything to her.
