William "Bill" Spencer Bethune Jr., age of 75, passed away Tuesday evening, August 24, 2021, at his home in Plano, Texas. Bill was born in Dallas, Texas to William Spenser Sr. and Betty Lee Bethune on May 28, 1946. He graduated high school from WW Samuel in Dallas, Texas and attended UT Arlington before being drafted into the US Airforce (1966). Serving four years overseas in 1966 and reaching the rank of E4 Sgt, Bill could be seen around town wearing caps in support of other veterans. Bill married the love of his life, Jeri Gail Penny, on March 22, 1969 in Dallas, Texas. After working for several companies, Bill and Jeri moved to Athens, Texas in the late 70’s, where they built a life and raised two rambunctious sons. Bill has always been an entrepreneur and built several successful businesses throughout his life which allowed the family to move and experience new adventures. The family ultimately moved to Plano, Texas in 1988, where he became a grandpa to two beautiful grandchildren. He was so proud of his grandkids for their achievements in school and sports. Bill was loved by many and was known as a larger-than-life personality. It was often remarked that Bill looked like the sportscaster Dale Hansen (but with more hair)! He loved to work on vintage 50's cars with his father, wear Hawaiian shirts and watch old westerns on TV. Later in life, collecting guns and sports memorabilia were his passions. He is survived by his wife; brother, Mike Bethune; sister-in-law, Valarie Haden Bethune; sisters-in-law, Melinda, and Sherry Penny; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Kim Bethune of Aubrey, Alex and Naomi Bethune of Little Elm; and 2 grandchildren, Chloe and Sam.
