Dear Dolores – I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I was very sorry I could not attend the service this morning. He was such a wonderful and always very cheerful although I know he didn't feel well. If there's anything I can do to help you, please call me. Hope to see you soon. Love, Anne Smith 182D Building
Thank you for your kind words. Daddy shared so much with us, but you have given us a little more, and I thank you for that. Daddy was a shade tree mechanic, fixing my car many times, and loved his friends and football.
Petey, I was sorry to learn in the newspaper this morning of Bill's passing. To my knowledge, in spite of being first cousins and sharing the same surname, we never met. I wish it had been otherwise, particularly since we lived close by. I may have met you once when I was a kid and you and Aunt Winnie were visiting Grandmother. I recall that Grandmother liked you. She lived 12 years or so after you and Bill married. My sympathy to you and yours, Jerry M. Flook
My name is Jim Gatewood, Bill and I were the closest of friends in the same class in school from the first grade. In high school he drove the family 1935 Chevrolet which he always kept running hot. Boy he could make that car stand on it's hind wheels. We uset to race toe "Big Sams" the closest beer joint in Dallas – last one there had to buy the first round.. In 1945 our football coach took us to Cameron, Texas for a summer football camp, the local girls surrounded us and Bill and I dated the bankers daughter and her friend. Bill and I slept in the gymnasium on benches with just a blanket and pillow. We stayed for two weeks and played the local high school in a scrimmage game every day. Bill was at his peak and was really tearing em up. He was injured broke some bones and had to stay a week after we left in the local hospital. He didn't get to play that fall we really needed him. He was a good shade tree mechanic and would always help with keeping his friends cars running.. He and I were the only ones left from that 1945 football team, and I knows that when I get to haven he will throw a football at me.. Jim Gtewood, Dallas History professor, Author and speaker
