William David "Dave" Harrison's Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the passing of William David “Dave” Harrison on May 31, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born on June 18, 1937 to Carolyn and George Harrison of Gainesville, Georgia, the middle son of three boys, George, David and James. Upon graduation from Gainesville High School, he went to North Georgia Military Academy and then onto his beloved UGA, University of Georgia. He graduated in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in business, GO DAWGS!
Dave married his middle school sweetheart, Mildred Southers in 1960 before being sent to Stuttgart, Germany to begin his 4-year Army career. After being honorably discharged, he sold mutual funds for a short time before joining Comex Service Corporation in 1967, where he would spend the rest of his business career, initially based in Frankfurt, Germany. The company was a manufacturers rep for all five branches of the military. After living in Germany for 16 years he moved his family to Dallas, Texas in 1976 to be closer to the Army Air Force (AAFES) buying offices. In 1983 the company was renamed CXC Marketing, Inc. and Dave continued as President until his retirement. Some of the manufacturer’s lines he represented through the years were General Electric, RCA, Black and Decker, Holson Burns, Bissell, Carlton Cards, and many more.
His love for football outweighed all other sports. UGA being his top college team and he became an avid supporter of his son in law and grandchildren’s teams starting with Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Washington, James Madison University and Michigan State University. Not to mention the Dallas Cowboys since his move to Texas in 1976!
He is predeceased by his parents, Carolyn and George and brothers, George Harrison of Culpeper, VA and James “Jim” of Gainesville, GA.
He is survived by his loving wife Millie of 64 years, daughter, Kim Harrison Steere and her husband, Dan, and three grandchildren, James Walker (26), Katherine Danielle (24) and Andrew David (21). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family who have always loved his sense of humor and dedication to family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 4 PM at First Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 North Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75081
