Willie Mae Elizabeth Belcher's Obituary
Willie Mae Elizabeth Belcher went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 6, 2020. She was 95, born on May 8, 1924 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Robert Logan and Sallie Price Logan. As the baby girl, with three older brothers she always felt loved. When she was 10, Willie's father was killed in a logging accident. Later she moved with her Mother and brother Willard from Alabama to Dallas, Texas to be near family.
During her senior year at Woodrow Wilson High School Willie met and dated an Army soldier, Samuel Henry Belcher. After graduation she got a job at Federal Reserve Bank in Downtown Dallas. They dated through the summer and into the autumn of 1943.They knew that Sam would be leaving for the war in Europe soon. They married on November 19, 1943 before he shipped out in January of 1944.He returned in 1945. They bought their first home in Dallas with the help of Sam's GI Bill benefits and provided a home for Willie's Mother and began their own family. They had 61 years of marriage before his death in 2005.
After visiting a neighborhood church in Dallas and hearing the pastor explain the gospel, Willie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. As she grew in her faith she began teaching children's Sunday school and serving the Lord in other areas of her life.
She was a devoted and loving Mother who cared deeply for her family. She stayed at home while her daughters were young and volunteered in the community. She served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and helped out at school events. Because Willie loved America and what it stood for, she worked at the voting polls during elections.
In 1966 after her Mother's death, Sam. Willie and daughters moved from Dallas to Plano. She resumed her banking career with Plano Bank and Trust(later Legacy Texas Bank) spanning 20 years until her retirement in 1986. Sam and Willie enjoyed several years of travel and good health after their retirements.
One of her greatest joys was her grandson, Nathan, born in 1991. As a Mamaw, she was playful and always found creative things to do like making "mud medicine." She gave great hugs and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband Sam and daughter Sherian. She is survived by daughter Jeanette and husband Glen of Plano and grandson Nathan of Grapevine. In addition she is survived by two sisters-in-law, and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Willie was blessed with a sharp mind and was able to stay engaged and mentally active as she aged. She enjoyed staying in touch with her loved ones and many friends.
